Services

  • Business diagnostic

A two-to-four-week look at your numbers, customers and workload that ends with a short, ranked list of what to fix first.

  • Growth roadmap

A 12-month plan with three to five targets, an owner for each and a monthly checkpoint you can actually keep.

  • Operations and capacity review

Find where work stalls, who it waits on and how much more volume your current team can carry before something breaks.

  • Pricing and margin strategy

Rework quotes, packages and price increases so the work you are busiest with is also the work that pays.

  • Monthly owner advisory

A senior sounding board every month, with a written scorecard that keeps the plan honest.

Consulting services for Burnaby owners

Most Burnaby companies we talk to are not short of effort. They are short of a plan that says no to things. The owner is quoting, managing staff, chasing invoices and fielding every hard call, and the business grows only as fast as one person can stretch. We are Burnaby.Business, a Canadian consulting practice in the Sedighi.ca and SAZ.ca group, run from Vancouver by Ali Sedighi, MBA. We help you decide where growth should come from, then fix the operations that would otherwise choke it.

The three questions every engagement answers

Whatever you hire us for, the work comes back to three questions: where does the profit really come from, what is in the way, and what will you do in the next 90 days. Everything else is detail.

  1. Where is the profit? Not revenue: profit after the owner's hours are counted. Many firms discover one customer group or service quietly pays for the rest.
  2. What is in the way? Usually one of four things: pricing that has drifted, a team that cannot absorb more volume, an owner who is the bottleneck, or demand that is too thin in the right places.
  3. What happens next quarter? A short list of actions with names and dates against them. If it cannot be written on one page, it is not a plan yet.

Our business diagnostic is the usual way in, and the services page explains how the rest fits together.

A worked example you can redo tonight

Take your last twelve months and split gross profit by customer type; the result often changes the plan on its own. Here is an illustrative Burnaby service firm with $1.4 million in sales:

Customer group Sales Gross margin Gross profit Owner hours a month
Repeat commercial accounts $760,000 38% $288,800 20
Strata and property managers $410,000 27% $110,700 35
One-off residential jobs $230,000 14% $32,200 50

The one-off jobs take the most of the owner's month and return the least. Moving even 20 of those 50 hours into account management for the commercial group is worth testing before spending a dollar on advertising. That is the kind of trade-off our growth roadmap puts on paper, with targets you can check.

Why a Burnaby-specific practice

Burnaby is not one market: a showroom near Metrotown, a fabricator in Big Bend and a software team in Discovery Parks face different costs, customers and staffing problems. The City's Official Community Plan organizes the city around four Town Centres (Metrotown, Brentwood, Edmonds and Lougheed), with Urban Villages, mixed-use and industrial areas around them, as set out on the City of Burnaby's community plans page.

That matters for planning. A firm whose customers sit within a short drive of Brentwood can run a tight service radius, while one selling across the Lower Mainland needs to account for crossing into Vancouver, Coquitlam or New Westminster every day. Our areas page goes through each part of the city and what it means for a business plan.

What we've learned from our HVAC work

Our longest track record is with home-service companies in BC and Ontario, and the planning lessons transfer to most owner-run firms. These are results from our HVAC work, shown as evidence of method, not as results in other sectors.

  • GasBoilers.ca is a gas-boiler division built for CANRO Heat that now serves 26+ BC communities: a lesson in launching a focused second line instead of stretching the main brand.
  • CanroHeat.ca achieved 250% lead growth.
  • HVACDeal.ca produced 500+ leads at a 12:1 ROI.

What each one teaches, and what does not carry over to a non-HVAC firm, is on the results page.

Who you'll work with

You deal directly with Ali Sedighi, MBA in Technology Management, who has worked in digital marketing and business growth since 2007. He founded ONE.ir, a full-service digital marketing agency, that year, went on to found Conv.ca and MyAutomation.ca, and is Founder and Managing Partner of SAZ.ca. He lives and works in Vancouver and has advised clients in Canada, the USA and Dubai. The about page has the longer version.

Behind this site sit Sedighi.ca, the growth and technology consultancy Ali founded, and BusinessConsulting.ca, its consulting brand. If you are still at the naming and registration stage, our sister site Burnaby.Company is written for founders launching a new company.

Cost, contracts and the first step

Consulting starts at $175 an hour, projects at $3,500 and retainers at $2,500 a month, in Canadian dollars plus GST. The first 30-minute consultation is free, retainers run month to month, and every plan and file we produce belongs to you. The pricing page explains what moves a quote up or down.

To start, call, text or email with three lines: what the company does, roughly where annual sales sit, and the one thing you would most like to be different a year from now. The contact page has a fill-in template, and the FAQ answers the usual questions about contracts, reporting and what happens if it does not work out.

How it works

  1. Describe the business as it is today

What you sell, roughly what it brings in, who your strongest customers are and what keeps you up at night. A short phone call covers it.

  2. Get a ranked list, not a binder

We come back with the three or four changes most likely to pay off in the next year, what each costs in money and hours, and how we would track it.

  3. Choose the level of help

One session, a defined project or a monthly advisory seat. Call, text or email; you'll talk to a senior strategist.

Frequently asked questions

What does Burnaby.Business actually do?

We are business consultants. We help owner-run Burnaby companies with strategy, growth planning, operations and pricing: working out where profit comes from, setting targets and fixing the bottlenecks that stop the business growing without the owner doing everything.

Is this marketing or consulting?

Mostly consulting. Marketing often shows up in the plan, and the wider group can carry it out, but our starting point is the business itself: customers, margins, capacity and the owner's time. Many firms find the real constraint is not a lack of enquiries.

Do you give legal, tax or accounting advice?

No. We do not give legal, tax or accounting advice and we are not a law or accounting firm. When a plan touches contracts, leases, payroll or tax, we work alongside your own lawyer or CPA rather than replacing them.

Who is behind the site?

Burnaby.Business is part of the Sedighi.ca and SAZ.ca group of companies, which is Canadian and headquartered in Vancouver, BC. It is led by Ali Sedighi, MBA in Technology Management, who has 17+ years of experience since 2007.

How much does it cost to start?

The first 30-minute consultation is free with no obligation. After that, hourly consulting is $175 to $350 an hour, projects run $3,500 to $25,000, and monthly retainers $2,500 to $12,000, in Canadian dollars plus 5% GST.

Will you promise a specific result?

No. Nobody honest can promise revenue or leads. We promise a plan with clear, measurable targets, regular reporting against them and a straight answer when something is not working.
